Herne Bay Womens FC
Project Overview
While working at Shapes I focused on creating consistent graphics for Herne Bay Women's Football as included in their sponsorship to the team. The main aim was to improve upon their inconsistency in both design and posting schedule, as well as to bring their personality forward.
My approach to this project was creating a simple brand identity which would flow throughout all the assets I created. This included colours, heading and copy fonts, gradients, textures and icons.
Collectable player cards
After shooting a media day in July, collecting additional details about players, I used the shots and the extra data to design custom player cards.
We used these as a tool to encourage younger audiences to games, build the profile of the players, and drive connections into the community with local school assemblies and town engagement, giving out the cards.
Alongside the marketing effort, the player cards have directly attributed to more families coming to games.
Social Media and Photography
With multiple women’s teams, and a large squad between them, creating designs for every game would only work with having a core set of templates that I could customise. I designed a series of templates in Photoshop for a variety of posts I felt necessary to provide information about upcoming games, line ups and results to the community we wanted to build.
From this I would bulk create for 12 week schedules based on the information we currently had. This meant I was able to create and schedule 'Next Game', 'Its Game Day' and fixture schedules in advance, allowing me to maximise my time for other clients.
Alongside all the social posts I created custom posters solely for high profile games and events the club had coming up. These were then placed in and around Herne Bay town to increase the crowd at the teams home games.
Photography
I provided game-day photography for first-team home matches, which:
- Generated fresh visual content for social channels
- Created excitement among players seeing themselves featured
- Built a growing image library for ongoing promotional use
This consistent visual identity and presence increased Herne Bay Women's Football's community presence significantly with the data showing 40k views since we took over their social media.
